I want to be a princess
I want to be a princess…
She was waiting for me in the doorway, wearing a wedding gown.
(I’m not gonna lie, I had a panicked moment where I pictured my little girl all grown up and walking down the aisle…)
Today, though, she was a princess, down to the princess slippers on her tiny, 3-year-old feet.
“Sweetheart,” I said, “it’s kind of cold outside. Why are you wearing a gown?”
My daughter sat down, looked up at me with her big eyes, and said, “Daddy, I want to be a princess. A real princess.”
Sitting down next to her, I took her hand and looked right in her eyes…
“You know what? You already are a princess. It’s not what you wear on the outside – not the gown or the princess slippers or the curls in your hair… Being a princess is in how you feel about yourself, in your head and in your heart.”
I’m still not sure if she understood (she’s only three, after all), but as I was saying it to her, it kind of spoke to me as well…
That being ‘successful’ isn’t about what I wear, or how big my bank account is
It’s about how I feel in my heart and in my mind about how successful I am.
It’s easy to get drawn in by the image people present in the ads we see on TV or in our
Facebook feed…
