I was so burned out

I was so burned out…

For the first two years after I stepped away from actively running my pawn business, I was depressed.

My life seemed so empty… sitting alone with nothing to do, staring at a computer for days on end…

I was used to being surrounded by people – clients and staff – but when I left…

It was lonely.

This isn’t really something I’ve spoken about publicly, but something happened this week that made me remember how tough that period was for me…

And I thought I should share it with you.

I was at a local event for pawnbrokers, and I met a guy who couldn’t stop telling me how lucky he thought I was because I’d gotten “out” of the business.

He kept talking about how burned out he was, and how he wished he could sell his business.

I remember asking the guy, “Are you hiring staff? Are you doing marketing? Are you improving your culture? Are you strategizing?”

His answer to every question was No…

He couldn’t see it, but it was his own inaction that was causing his burnout.

You see, there’s a big difference between getting burned out because you’re taking SO MUCH action that you’re on fire… and getting burned out because you’re taking NO action – you’re not hiring the right team, or putting in place a great marketing campaign, or implementing new strategies.

Next time you’re feeling burned out in your business…

Instead of daydreaming about leaving it behind – or just talking endlessly about how bad your business (and your burnout) is…

Be sure you’re putting strategies into place, building a great culture, and hiring the right team…

So you can stop the burnout, make money, and still go on vacations and be present with your family.

What are your best strategies for avoiding – and stopping – burnout? Hit reply and let me know how you’re feeding the flames without burning yourself out.

Flame on,
