Yigal Adato: 00:02 Hey everyone, my name is Yigal Adato and this is the Pawn Leaders Podcast, a podcast to help you make more money, stress less and live an epic life all while working at the pawn shop.

Yigal Adato: 00:21 Hey pawn family and welcome back to another episode of five minute Friday. If you're listening to this on the day that it comes out, I'm probably flying over a the U.S going to the Louisville, Kentucky to be at the Midwest Pawnbrokers convention. And I want to talk to you guys about something that happened this week during the mastermind group. And it's something that I feel that a lot of pawnbrokers don't do and should do. And that's plan. For so many years, I remember my brother and I just walking into the store every morning and figuring out what we were going to do at that moment, no plan, no real strategy for many years. And I realized that it was kind of crazy doing that. And if you look at some of the most successful people, they were always planning. They had morning routines, they had to do lists, they had you know, daily things that they would cross off in order to get to their goal in order to get to the yearly goal, their quarterly goal, their monthly goal.

Yigal Adato: 01:23 But there was consistent planning and I learned this from a mentor of mine, Alex Charfen, who is brilliant at this and what he taught me was that if you don't plan, your goals aren't going to happen. You have to meticulously plan your time so you can accomplish what you want to accomplish. Now I know the first thing that's probably in your mind right now is, Yigal, I'm a pawnbroker. I never know what's going to happen in my store. We're so busy, at some point I might be on the counter at some point. I might have five minutes of free time and you see, that's why I don't really believe that pawnbrokers should schedule their day because you're right, we do have emergencies that come up big clients that just want to talk to us. You know, a Rolex might come in a big diamond that you need to check and not just your employees and I understand that, but part of what I talk about in the mastermind is something called the focus 4, and those are four things that you write down in the morning or the night before that you will accomplish that day 4 things that are crucial in order for you to get to your goal of increasing your pawn loans, making more money in sales, having a better relationship with your spouse, whatever that is.

Yigal Adato: 02:47 See my four to do's on a daily basis or my focus for the things I want to focus on to get done could be as easy as, you know, change the, the, I don't know, the bolt on crib for my daughter. It might be write some emails to my email list. And when we started seeing these happening in the mastermind group over,

they were doing this on a daily basis and I was holding them accountable. Things were getting done. So many times, you know, you walk into the pawnshop and you ah, it's a different day. And that's why I love it and I understand that it's a business that we love because it's always different. The people who walk in always different. The merchandise that comes in never the same, but you should have a plan of attack so that you can win and you can make more stress less and live that epic life that I consistently talk about.

Yigal Adato: 03:42 So what does planning look like? See planning looks like making a one year a big goal. If you want to up your pawn loans $50,000 or $100,000 in a year, write that down somewhere. And then you know that this quarter you need to plan to be able to increase that, that loan balance by a certain amount. Now you know what? It's got to be on a monthly basis and now you know what you need to do on a daily basis when it comes to leadership, marketing, and strategy. See those who plan win. You're never going to see an Olympic athlete just get to the Olympics without planning, without practicing and without playing their heart out to win that gold medal. And it's the same thing in business. If you're just going to show up and expect to be the best, expect to beat your competition, it's not going to happen.

Yigal Adato: 04:40 But if you plan it out strategically, if you plan out your day, if you plan out your time so you're not wasting it. If you plan out your quarter or your year, I promise you, you will be a step above the other pawnshop across the street. But it's up to you. You can still sit there and think like the old pawnbroker way of I don't need to plan. I can just walk in. Or you can be a pawn leader and do things differently. Plan your day, strategize what you're going to do and how you're going to do it. And yes, things are going to get in the way, but that's okay because you have a plan of attack so you can get back on that plan and make it happen. And with that, if you're going to be at the Midwest conference, I look forward to seeing you.
